POLL TDM
Welcome to Majority Rule's poll Test Drive! We are putting this up separately from our main test drive in order to make it a bit easier for people to play around with this feature - we thought it would be harder to locate polls in toplevels and keep track of votes.

How do polls work again?

A quick refresher course on polls in Majority Rule from our FAQ: Here at Majority Rule we divide polls into two categories: Action Polls and Flavor Polls. A flavor poll is a poll that isn't meant to make people decide on a course of action or to enact an IC policy change or cause anything to happen. It's more polling people for their opinions on something for the hell of it. An action poll is a poll that proposes an action or change that the Navigator and moderators can enforce.

Other guidelines?
1) The poll options have to be equally desirable and also distinct from one another. For example, "Should we have cake for dinner?" with the options "yes, of course, absolutely, immediately" would not be a valid poll even though it actually poses a valid question. And the same question with the options "vanilla, lemon, oozing blood, cream cheese" would also not be valid as an action poll because one of the options is obviously generally undesirable.

2) The poll can't be used to force one specific person to do something. With the example about Team Rocket banning hats, they can do that! But they couldn't post a poll saying "Should Ash Ketchum not be allowed to wear a hat". Polls can't target an individual.

How do polls work ICly?

Everyone is issued a sweet-ass network bracelet by their Navigator upon waking. This thing has all the features - it can even project a virtual keyboard on any surface and project a larger screen on anything. Your character's username may be set by them upon their first connection to the network and cannot be changed afterwards. Characters cannot post anonymously and their real names are viewable when other characters click into their profile along with their voting history.

Any crew member of the Lethe can at any time post a poll. Everyone else's bracelets will chime softly - or emit some other chosen sound effect from the settings or vibrate softly. Characters will then be prompted to vote on whatever it is. They can abstain or ignore votes if they wish but the Majority will Rule, so they may wish to weigh in on anything they care about. The Caduceus crew members will be initially unable to see polls or vote but by the end of the TDM should all be crew members of the Lethe. For the purposes of having fun and test driving, that's more OOC knowledge that they cannot: we welcome everyone to post and vote in polls regardless of their chosen Navigator and invite everyone to simply assume through the power of RP timeline magic it works out somehow.

How do I use this post?

Make a toplevel with your poll. Other players will then have their characters respond with votes and characters can argue or go on tangents like you would on any message board. After 48 hours a poll is considered closed (or for polls which would only impact your character or are of lower priority like opening locked doors or cryosleep pods it can be closed at five votes regardless of timeframe) and you can submit it to our poll results toplevel. That's how we, the moderators, will know when there's something for us to do on our end! Polls take place entirely on the network though you can go and yell at someone in person if you really want to. Rhys only interferes if blackmail or violence are used to change votes.

If you have any questions about polls specifically feel free to hit our questions toplevel on this page. If you're just trying to find polls you can vote in, maybe toplevel view will help out. Depending on activity and interest we may make an open poll directory on this page.
