You could still try. A cornered rat has no chance of wining, but it'll still jump and bite at you.

[ Those idioms find their roots in true advice. They can't tear a human apart, not the same way that larger animals can, but they can sink their teeth in through skin and flesh and infect a person with any number of diseases that will end their life. Humans can do it to each other, too. They can bite and rend and scratch when they're backed into a corner.

Those that are ensnared aren't so lucky. However large, however fit, however gifted, once captured they're just a corpse waiting to be laid in its coffin. ]
